Washington Latin Replication?

Here we go-- it looks like Alice Deal for all is starting in the Charter sector?

Well, it’s been in the strategic plan since 2016 so it’s not like some last minute idea. At least the school seems to be following through on their goal.

Come on DCI!

No comparison. WL has been open for nearly 15 years and successfully graduated multiple classes of students who have gone on to college, the military or to work.

Latin has proven its model works. Should DCI ever replicate, it should do the above first. They aren’t there yet. They are still churning through administrators.

Oh honey, Latin is nothing to brag about. Nice outdated curriculum with a really sad list of college acceptances. Come on.

*sorry I’m still laughing at the “proven it’s model works” bit. HILARIOUS!

Kernel of truth above, but things aren't black and white at Latin. The school has seem a few kids crack Ivies, and will surely see more. It's a decent enough program 15 years in, at least for families drawn to a classical education.

You can always add challenge through enrichment with discipline and maybe an investment in tutors, enrichment camps, independent college counselors etc. if you can afford it.

You could say that about any school. “With tutors maybe your kid will do ok!”

Disappointing.

The measure of a charter school is not whether its students "crack Ivies." It is whether they can graduate students who go on to higher education and careers period at a greater rate than traditional DCPS schools.

But the broader point is about DCI -- it is not yet proven and talk of replication is premature.

More details are available. It looks like the application has been submitted and the request is to open in SY20-21:

Good lord. Do you realize how few kids actually apply to ivy league schools? It is so simple minded to measure a school by that metric.

I think the point was about Latin- how their “success” is making sure they’re only 7% at risk. Please.

With those stats the test scores are embarrassing.

A) you slammed DCI, a school that is new and actually tries to educate non white kids.

B) I’m sorry that the truth hurts you so badly. Actually not sorry at all.

1) There are more than 2 people on this thread.
2) WL’s demographics looked like DCIs for its first several years, until the gentrified flocked to it. Same thing may happen to DCI. Don’t be so quick to judge.
3) Noting that DCI is not a mature school, ready for replication isn’t slamming it. In fact it’s leaders says the same thing.

We are considering Washington Latin and so I'm curious - are the people who are criticizing the school current parents (or students or teachers)? What are the specific complaints/downsides from people with an inside view? Or are these folks above just offering their perspective based on test scores and demographic data that is public? Thank you.
