Shady Grove and older women?

Anonymous
Is it true that Shady Grove does not favor older women? In other words, they like nice, clean, simple cases and generally are most responsive to the 30-37 year old set? How do those in their 40's feel about Shady Grove; their approach, their success rates in comparison to other local clinics etc. TIA.

My doc told me the average age of her patients is 38, so I assume she has patients in their 40's.

I'm 39 and she was optimistic about my chances and did not give me the feeling I was "too old."

However, SG is pretty cookie-cutter so I don't know how innovative they are with 40+ yr olds.

I am 41 and have been treated great. I don't see them as favoring younger women at all. I got pregnant at 40 and will going back for #2.

I'm 42 and have not experienced any feeling that SG disfavors older patients. This is my first IVF cycle (after IUIs at another clinic), so can't comment yet on success rate. However, I may not be a "hard case" - already have one child and have typically responded well to the drugs - just no luck with the IUI.

I got pregnant with twins at age 41 at SG. I had two IVF's with them at age 40 -- one cancelled cycle and one miscarriage. I was a little leary about the third try, but my Dr. and husband were for it and it worked!

My doc was proactive and changed my protocol after the cancelled cycle. I felt like they really did everything they could to give me my best shot.

In our case, we already had a child (via IVF -- that time on my 4th cycle), and just wanted to expand our family. Donor eggs were never mentioned.

thanks -- for all of you who had good experiences and success in your 40's with SG -- who was your doc? my issue seems to be old eggs -- nothing else. i have a child, conceived naturally at 37, am now almost 42.

I second Dr. Osborn. She is wonderful - empathetic, a good listener. I would really recommend going with a female doctor. However, I am not crazy about Dr. Nair, with whom I've had some contact at Shady Grove. I would avoid Dr. Stillman (male). Apparently a great doc, but not so stellar on a personal level. Dr. Widra (also male) seems great, but have not had a lot of contact.

Good luck!

For another female dr recommendation, I like Dr. Browne at Fair Oaks a lot on a personal level.

I have only had one cycle so far and it was cancelled (overstimmed for IUI, too many follicles) so my overall experience has been somewhat disappointing to date, but I generally like Dr. Browne.

I've had one conversation with Dr. Widra and I liked him too - he was easy to talk to, etc. I also really like Dr. Greenhouse - had one u/s with him and he was great.

I used Dr. Greenhouse.

I didn't feel SG was good for older woman, I was 38 and they cancelled my IVF cycle because I was a low responder, I went to Cornell and got pregnant on the first try with basically the same response to the medications. If you are truly a difficult case I would steer clear of SG.

Stay away from Dr. Nair. She isn't very professional, is a bad listener and, generally, doesn't make you feel like she's paying much attention.
