VW leatherette or leather? Anything other then price?

Is it important to you to have either or? If so which one and why?

I have the leatherette on my 12 year old Passat and it looks pristine. Everything wipes off it and you can’t tell it’s not leather. My other car has leather and they look and feel the same. When it’s really dirty I’ve used a magic eraser.

I have the leatherette on VW 2006 convertible. It looks great and easy to clean.

We have a 2010 jetta and the leatherette seats look brand new. I prefer it to leather because it doesn't show any cracks or signs of wear. I wish my subaru had them

So everybody is focusing on the durability and looks but how about air quality inside the car? Is it affecting it in any way? After all this is highly processed petroleum product isn't it? Unless it is made of leatherette-ed cows?

DH has black leather on his and the seats are hot as hell in the summer, and take forever to cool down. I just got a Golf wagon with black leatherette so I have still to test it in the midst of DC summer but in the couple of warm days we have had so far this spring the seats have been cool even when the car was parked in the sun all day at work.

Leatherette is actually made from recycled tires. Leather is made from the skin of murdered cows.

It gets hot as hell in summer to the point where I had to put down towels—sorry. This is the only thing I disliked about my black VW sportwagen.

leatherette is vinyl. Remember the cheap stuff in the 70s cars? They just renamed it so people would not associate it with cheapness

Sorry but it’s nothing similar. I remember the vinyl cars from the 70s. They tore, were sticky, sweaty and looked cheap. Leatherette is indistinguishable from leather except you can scrub it with soft scrub and magic erasers. So incredibly durable. I don’t think it makes you sweat more than leather.

My $70k Mercedes doesn’t even have leather. Leatherette is fine.
