Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
Those are my mom's absolute favorite candies, and I'm looking for a local shop where I can buy some fabulous ones for her. (She doesn't like truffles, so a store that focuses on those wouldn't be ideal -- unless they also have the best marzipan ever, of course.) In my online perusing, I've seen Biagio and ACKC mentioned, and they both sound great -- but anything in DC will be a bit of a trek for me, so I want to have some idea that a shop will have specifically what I want before going. Which is, again, amazing marzipan and/or chocolate-covered cherries.
Any suggestions? Thank you! |

I can't help you but that sounds really good, if you find some let us know!

| Heidleberg in Arlington has pretty good marzipan. I know that will be far from you but it is the only place I can think of. |

Mozart's Cafe/Shop in downtown DC (near Metro center) has a lot of chocolate/marzipan candy in this brand: http://www.mozartkugeln.biz/. But, they seem to have a different selection at different times.
When I was traveling in Austria and Germany this stuff was everywhere. I've seen it at other specialty chocolate shops, but I can't recall specifically where. |
PP here... the mozart chocolate it very good, but not sure if I would call it the very best ever. It would certainly do in a pinch.

| How about making your own marzipan? I remember when I lived in Norway that it was very common for people to do this at Christmastime....I never learned how, but from what I recall it was not difficult. |
| OP again -- someone IRL suggested Neuhaus in Union Station. I can get there fairly easily, so I'll try it first. Thanks! |
| Go to Rodmans and see what they have. |
| Mozartkugel is fine but I wouldn't say it's "amazing." OP, did you try Neuhaus and if so, how was it? |
