What to do with kids who seem to have done everything in the dc area already

We used to go to the zoo or museums every week. My 8 and 10yo aren’t very excited to do anything anymore.

Do I make them go to an egg hunt?

You go farther afield, or to places off the beaten path. Where's the egg hunt?

Make them read a book or play outside. Sheesh. Not complicated. They don’t need to be spoon-fed stimulation constantly.

One of the problems with our museums is that they are catering to the tourist population and they don't change their inventory much. We had a similar problem. But, there are tons that are off the beaten track. Checkout the smaller ones.

I would not make them go to an egg hunt if they really don't want to go.

Go to Baltimore, Philly, or Harper’s Ferry.

National Parks.

Gettysburg, Fort McHenry, Manassas Battlefield, Shenandoah, Prince William Forest

There are so many within a 2-3 hour drive that you could make a day trip out of. Most National Parks will have the "junior ranger program" where they fill out an activity book and get sworn in as a "junior ranger."

I’d think at 8 and 10 they’re too old to make them do an egg hunt. I think my 7yo might be fine with it, but it may be the last year.

Check Kidfriendly DC—tons of suggestions there.

Right. Learning about history and nature is boring. OP should be taking her kids to Rebounderz and ifly every weekend.

Take them to go pick up litter and help clean up their neighborhood (or other local neighborhoods/parks). Help build their self esteem up by helping others.

The new spy museum
The Museum of the Bible
The special exhibit at the National Geographic museum

Look for things a little of the beaten path

Have you done the Cathedral and searched for the Star Wars Gargoyles?

We took a break from museums at that age, because they had seen a lot. Took long walks at Great Falls, went to Mount Vernon repeatedly, etc. Now we're ready to do museums again.

By 8/10, most kids are pretty busy pursuing their own interests (sports, music, art, whatever) and you don't spend your weekends going to museums/zoos.

This. They should have friends to hang out with and hobbies to pursue.
