My DS (3.5) got the mist at a clinic. Now we're up to the booster time:
WWYD? We have the opportunity to get the mist at 5 weeks at a clinic or Get him the shot at 29 days. Would you wait for the mist-mist or take the shot despite the whole mist-shot thing? Thanks for your thoughts... |
| i'd wait for mist |
| What's the "whole mist shot thing"? We were told you could get the shot and the mist. |
The CDC said it's "preferable" to stick with the same method of vaccination for both, but you *can* mix and match. Also, I wanted to add (this is the OP) that the shot would be at the pediatrician's office. (They just got their shipment). Thanks so much for your input. |
Op here -- please? All these lookers and no opinions!
In all seriousness, I would love to hear some thoughts on this.... please. |
|
I would give him the shot.
I would NOT go shot -> mist but I would go the other way. |
Why? |

Er, I'm sorry, I'm not sure I can really give you a great answer there beyond "the high level expert in my family says so", and I know that sounds kind of rude and crappy. It was a bit over my head.
Something about the immune response from the previous injectible creating an adequate immune response to kill the live virus in the spray before as good of an immune response resulted. Great, sounds simple enough, but what I didn't really understand was why that same thing wouldn't happen with round two of the mist if round one was the mist. He explained, I just didn't get it. Either way he said there has been a good bit of analysis on this and he'd recommend once one starts with the shot that they stick with that method. |
Thank you. But he's fine with mist ---> shot? |
|
My kids already were injected, so I didn't ask that specifically. It is *my* deduction that he would say mist -> shot ok, based on the discussion we had.
To clarify, I *personally* would probably do the shot rather than wait another week. Since it isn't live, I don't see how it would matter from THIS regard. |
|
I also have a 2d dose dilemma: my kids had the shot and then less than 48 hours they got what was almost certainly H1N1 flu (did not bother to test them for it, but several kids in their pre-school tested positive that very same week, so odds are....)
Anyway -- do I bother to get the booster at this point? I am thinking not.... |
| i definitely would not bother. I am not anti-vaccine, but there are risks, so why risk it when they had the flu and got the shot. I know tons of kids who had shot and then got the flu within days. Seems like a lot of people to have picked it up "in line" -- regardless, glad they are well. I think you can rest easy! (of course check with your doctor) |
| My 4 year old son got the mist and then shot. We went to the dc clinic last night and they said it was ok. |
And he seems fine? |
| I'd give mine the soonest available. |
