Skills Clinics for Young Players

Anonymous
DS is currently in Second Grade, and perfectly happy with his rec league. BUT, he would love to attend some Skills Clinics- things like ball control, throw ins, corner kicks, footwork, etc. Essentially, a one day class to help him build specific skills.

Is there anything like this?

Jokes aside. Just look for footskills training.

Things you should never, ever, ever worry about though:
Throw ins and Corner kicks.

MSI used to run clinics. Brit-Am is also a good option.

Try to get your kid excited about juggling on his own. Set up some challenges for him. Have him write down how many total juggles and his PR for the day. Have his coach praise him for turning in a 30 day chart. I bought a $40 rebounder for my basement when the kids were little. Excellent for throw ins for example. Throw at the rebounder and it comes right back. Have him hit the middle of the rebounder and keep getting farther away from it. Have him do footskills at home as well. If he really loves soccer...20 minutes a day would do him wonders but don't force it at such a young age. Lots of 1v1s with dad! I mean this is the bread and butter. My kids LOVED 1v1s with dad. When they'd ask, I would say..."I need 20 minutes to finish something. Do 10 minutes of juggling and 10 minutes of footskills and I'll be right down." They'd be like OK! Then we'd play until I couldn't go anymore. This is really better than anything you can pay for at this age...for both of you. : )

DCYFC runs age appropriate training three days a week around NW. Sign up for one day a week. They work on proper technique, drill a little, do fun games/drills(sharks and minnows) and end with 3v3 games.
