5 weeks pg and have cold - should I cancel my appt for vaccine?

Anonymous
My Dr. office scheduled me for an H1N1 vaccine this afternoon. I came down with a cold yesterday (I think) , and I was feeling pretty miserable last night. I didn't have a fever this morning and feel OK (not great), and they said yesterday I could get it if I don't have a fever. I don't know what their supply is like, and if they will be able to reschedule me... I am probably going to go in and see what they think, but I wanted to see what opinions you all have...

If you don't have fever or trouble breathing (other than congestion in your nose I mean) I'd get it. Don't get the mist though- get the shot.

My DS had a cold when he got his shot. So did almost every kid in line!!

I never did any shots while being pregnant! I couldn't take such a risk, especially with such new vaccine as H1N1...

Not helpful to OP. There are many threads on this topic- go there and preach.

OP here - FWIW, my sister is a family doctor, into holistic medicine and very wary of thimerisol. She was pretty clear that I SHOULD get the shot, given the risks to pregnant women. I also have an egg-allergic 3yo at in daycare (who can't get the vaccine), and I had been trying to figure out how to get one when I got pg. This is a risk I am going to take.

Don't for a second feel like you have to justify your decision, OP. I'm also pregnant and have been advised by the many doctors in my family (as well as my personal OB and internist) to get vaccinated ASAP. I got mine nearly 4 weeks ago and had no reaction and the baby's doing great.

Hope you're feeling better. I have a cold too and it's no fun being pregnant, exhausted and sick!!!!
