Someone commiserate with me. This week we did the following things:
1) Spring clean up and mulching - $1000 2) Major car repair - $3200 3) New HVAC - $5500 4) French drain in basement - $2800 5) Taxes - owe $8000 UGHHHH we had the money saved to do all of this but good lord it sucks writing those checks out! Being an adult is expensive! |
Yes, totally expensive, but on the bright side, sounds like you've been very productive on getting some long-term fixes done. |
Yes, and these kinds of bills are simply endless. We've also put thousands into car and home repairs in recent months, with no end in sight. It's crazy how expensive even the simplest repair is, and it sucks! |
I wiped out our entire savings on medical care and am not done paying the bills. I guess we’re lucky we had the money but, I agree it sucks to have to take a lot of money from savings. |
We did 20k this month on home and life stuff. Sucks!! |
Why didn't you just do your yard work yourself? You got off cheaply with the HVAC. Ours was over $10K. |
Same! And I have some looming car repairs. Although I don't fault anyone for paying for yard work. |
This doesn't just suck - this is emblematic of a much bigger issue. House repairs, car repairs, that's one thing. But sucking your savings dry and then some just to keep yourself healthy - that should not happen in a civilized enlightened society. |
+1 |
Our last HVAC purchase was over $10k too. I always pay in the $1k range for a spring clean-up, especially if we have to replace some plants. We just had 2 car repairs, but luckily it was only about $1k for both. Taxes were $12k this year. We had some weird stuff, not just the withholding change. Ouch! |
What could be more important and valuable than your health? As someone with a chronic disease, I pay a ton but it’s worth every penny to keep me alive, to employ the highly skilled people who keep me alive, and to have access to the very best in technology. |
Ouch on those taxes though. Yikes! We got $550 back. So much less than in previous years, but I'm just glad we didnt' end up owing anything. |
I think the point is that in this country, we let ill health drive people into bankruptcy. That is unimaginable in much of the rest of the developed world. |
We just paid $1200 for ours. A chunk of that is mulching, so even if we did it ourselves it would not be free. I don't mind gardening, but i consider the spring clean up a bargain. The crew took out a truckload of trimmings and debris, and spread yards of mulch. The team was about 8 guys, working for about 3 hours, so 24 man hours. No way do I have 24 hours to spend on yardwork! |
Op here - yes this is the first year we have owed! Sucks! But we did make $100k more this year so it was expected. |
