There was a County hearing on taxes tonight. I went to ask for a tax cut. So this dork gets up and says "please raise my taxes. Raise my sewer rate, raise my garbage rate, raise all fees. Don't just tax me, tax my neighbors, AND the parents at my kids' schools". Services blah blah blah. Programs to help elderly and disabled who can't pay property taxes, etc.
One, you have to be pretty stupid to ask Democrat politicians to raise your taxes. Two, that's rich to think the County should take money from someone who lucked into a hot market back in like the 1970s. Three, where do you get off asking to raise MY taxes? How do you know what my financial situation is. I didn't ask for my house to jump $500k in value, and I didn't budget to pay those property taxes. I've seen this guy at his kids' rec games, though not at anything Travel. Figures. So he wants the government to take MY money that goes to pay for my kids' travel teams and my pool membership. Because government knows better how to spend my kids' money. |

Paying taxes is our patriotic duty.
Taxes are the price we pay to live in a civilized society. I pay my taxes because I am a patriot who loves this country. Only the selfish and the lied-to-by-billionaires want small government. “I want small government” is just a way to say “please screw me over, Koches, Murdoch, and Adelson”. |
| There are plenty of places you can move where people pay lower taxes. Even in the DC area, just move out to the exurban counties in Virginia. Far West on I66. Maybe Winchester. |
|
Sorry, I'm more on his side than yours, even if I think you're both a little wanting. |
| So sell your house for a $500knprofit and move somewhere with fewer taxes and services. |
|
Um, that tax savings would go to pay for services for my severely disabled child and to save for his future. It would help our family pay for elder care for my mom.
It would enable us not to havecyo move from our home of 20+ years which a distinct possibility. I had to quit my job to care for my DC. It’s not at all about signing my kids up for travel sports. And if you think that your raising taxes is going to mean more money for my disabled kid you are a moron. I would never use some of those services provided by the government because they are awful (provided by unqualified, uncaring low paid workers they hire off the street) and mostly that money would just be absorbed into government pork or embezzled perhaps. Gifts for developers who then give consulting money back to politicians, former politicians and their friends. Honestly - you can’t just give your extra money to the Special Olympics, the YMCA, JCC inclusion camp, the Arc , the Ivy Mount school , the Senior Connection, Meals on Wheels, the Montgomery Cheetahs?? You have to give your extra money to the government and everyone else’s too? You are wildly dumb and lazy. I suspect that maybe you are 13 years old? Try reading the news paper some time. |
| He is right |
Same here |
You make no compelling arguments and just sound like a petulant child. |
I am so sorry, for you, really I am. Perhaps we could make some kind of deal where I pay the difference in your property taxes from what they were before your house went up in value, and in return when you sell or die, I or my heirs get all the appreciation? Does that sound attractive to you? |
| So, it's okay for you to ask for everyone's taxes to be cut, presumably because you don't want the things that taxes pay for, but not okay for a fellow citizen to ask for taxes to be increased, because he wants more of the things that taxes pay for? Trying to follow your logic here. |
That's easy logic to follow. It is always morally correct to ask the government to steal less of everyone's money. It is always morally incorrect to ask the government to steal more of everyone's money. Just because you, fellow citizen, "want more stuff" does not mean you are entitled to my money, and it is not OK for you to ask the state to take my money at gunpoint and give it to you. F*ck off. |
| So only you can speak at a community meeting and no one who disagrees with you? You missed something in civics class. |
Not everyone believes that taxation is theft. |
What a silly logic. Government provides the framework that enables you to make that money to begin with and gives you protection from other "taxes" that you would pay under duress to whatever local strongman happened to be around. Look at Somalia's in Syria's of the world. Anti-taxers and anti-vaxxers, same ill-informed or should I say fox-informed crowd. |
