Mine goes to aftercare 4 days a week. One day we just hang out at home. What are others doing after school? Are we missing out on a world of after-school activities and playdates? Or do most kindergartners go home and veg after the long Montgomery County day? |
homework ![]() |
Afterschool art class at school one day, dance class elsewhere another day, homework nightly, schlep big brother to/from his activities other days. |
swimming lesson 1x a week, art class 1x a week. No homework |
No lessons. Minimal homework. Go watch sis get "lessons". Tennis, swim, scooter. Nap, eat a lot, cuddle.
Too young for much organized stuff. |
art class 1 X per week. Otherwise relax at home, playdates, veg out. |
Gymnastics once a week. Plays with her dolls or her little brother the other days. She doesn't have homework this year. |
bored and drives me crazy. |
Ballet one night a week. Soccer another night, but that just ended. This winter she may take an art class one afternoon a week to replace the soccer. |
Plays in the backyard (sandbox, swings), colors, plays with play-doh, plays with his brother, helps me do dinner prep, reads. He does his homework later in the afternoon (5:30ish), just before dinner. |
Babysitter a few days a week, comes with me to pick up younger sibling a couple of days a week, afterschool activity one day a week. |
Aftercare 5 days a week; baseball and art class within the aftercare program two days a week. |
Plays outside, plays inside -- just free play. And occasional playdates.
OP, you can schedule playdates for your child on the weekend. I personally don't prefer it, but I have gone along with it because my child likes to see his friends with 2 working parents. |
Our K boy comes home every day, eats his lunch or some other big snack (since he rarely manages to eat much during his lunch period), does a bit of outdoor play or "gardening" till maybe 5 or 530pm, does a lot of drawing (a new thing for him - but his teacher says it's good for improving his writing so we're happy about that), and settles in for a DVD or some time on Starfall.com and an early dinner. Bath and books routine starts super early, 6:30 or 7pm at latest, since he seems to be exhausted. It's definitely not an ideal afternoon - I wish he had more kids to play with, and wish that TV/computer weren't part of it. I also would love to have him do activities in the afternoon but have been nervous about overloading him. |
I already posted; swim 1x a week, art class 1x a week; no homework, and .....
sadly, the child watches an hour of television every single day. otherwise there's freeplay. |
