What time of day should I use an OPK? I'm getting conflicting information. Does it depend on the type of test I'm using?
Thanks in advance. |
not sure but i'm pretty certain you should follow the guidelines recommended for pregnancy tests: FMU is best but later in the day -- after having not peed for a couple hours is fine too. good luck.
RE told me to test in morning.

actually for LH detecting OPKs it's supposed to be twice a day, once in the late morning (after 11am) and once in the evening. At least 6 hours apart.
First morning urine is not ideal, having to do with when your hormones surge in relation to your inner clock. |
I test around 10 AM and then again around 5PM. Seems to work just fine and I have yet to miss a surge. LH is more likely to surge in the afternoon or evening, so using FMU is not recommended.
this is very helpful! I had no idea about when to test and just assumed it should follow the pregnancy test protocols. Thanks ladies.
If you really want to catch it, two times a day is ideal, around noon and 5 or 6 pm.
I always do around 1pm and 8pm. Try to hold it for a couple hours before you test. Also FMU is not best for OPKs!
what is FMU? How do you all test at work? I find myself standing in the stall waiting. Sort of weird.
If I only tested in the morning, I would miss my surge & never get a positive. Testing around 5 or 6 pm after not drinking very much & not peeing for 2 hrs before worked for me.

FMU = first
morning urine |
So how do you test mid-day while at work???? Sneak back to your office holding the stick as flat as possible to wait until you can do your reading?
You know, I've always used FMU, but I actually think that's why I'm not detecting my LH surge until the day after I ovulate. I think I should have been testing later in the day. Thanks for this post!
Just a caveat - The Clearblue Fertility Monitor DOES require FMU. It is the one exception.
I take the stick in the stall and stay in the stall for 3 mins. No biggie. Throw the stick away in the female disposal.
