Arlington ADP

Did anyone do try outs this year for ADP this spring?

We went for 2009 only to realize some of those trying out were from the travel teams! Not sure if they were current or former.
We thought they were former ADP players or played on same rec team but are current travel players are allowed to step down to ADP?

Is it me or ADP getting harder to make every year?

As a parent of a current ADP player, I would say no. They pretty much take everyone.
However, tryouts for the spring season are different in that coaches are looking to fill the spots of players who left mid year. They are only filling a certain amount of spots.

That would be a big no.

Not even close that anyone who tries out for ADP makes it. In many regards, ADP is harder to make than lower travel teams in ASA; especially for girls.

ADP is probably the best program for U9-U11.

The skill of many players is easily on par or above ASA 3rd travel teams and lower, and probably (for some years) on par with second team talent.

I had two kids go through ADP and are in mid-tier travel teams now. ADP is awesome and a huge step up from rec. They seemed to take most except the lower end rec players in the fall, it's very hard to make for just the spring season. There is a variety of talent, some are definitely top tier "red" level but being held back from travel for a variety of reasons. I saw a lot of ADP players try out at U10 and only a handful made it and only on the bottom teams, good luck displacing the kids that went straight to travel at U9. A lot more seemed to make it at U11 since the teams get bigger with more spots. The pathway of ADP to travel was good for my kids who are good but not Messi, but virtually no one seems to go from ADP to the top teams in Arlington without spending a few seasons on a lower team first.

As for the non-competitive "development" focus, they don't keep scores of games or standings. Which I thought it was great but ironically the kids did not, they wanted the competitive element and were kind of bored without it.

I have a 2010 boy playing ADP and 2010 travel had a small turn out for try outs - so I assume travel is probably not up to ASA normal standards. A lot 2010 players did not return for spring b/c word is they were "recruited" for travel in ASA.

From his rec team several players made travel and on red/upper level teams. From what I have seen one player (who is actually 2011 birth year) would be on par with the rec player playing red in travel. He is not playing travel b/c he is also an excellent flag football player.

The rest seem to be good but inconsistent - probably b/c they only have one pro coach practice a week. Travel has 3 so even if the players start off equal after a year or two, just by default and nothing to do with talent; travel players should be a lot better on average.
