Where in the Caribbean?

| I'm sure there have been lots of discussions about this. We're planning a vacation in June, for a week to the Caribbeans. Husband, 3-year old son and myself. I'd like to fly directly, BWI, Dulles or National, doesn't matter, and prefer an all-inclusive resort. Have budgeted 3,500-4,000 for the trip. Any recommendations? The Caribbeans offer so many possibilities and I'm overwhelmed. Thanks. |

I have been to a ton of places in Caribbean including Jamaica, DR, Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Turks & Caicos and you know what I liked Mexico Yucatan coast better. About 1 hour south of Cancun is Puertos Adventuras and we stayed at Barcelo Mayan Palace, family vacation was so great. They have 2 waterparks just steps from the beach that would be perfect. The rooms very upscale and NICE beach, white sand, calm clear water. And the food was really good and this is from one picky mama. This was first all inclusive food that I have ever liked. And we went in September for 9 days 8 nights all inclusive for 2700 including flights. Heaven! My four year old begged me to take him to kid's club and he really enjoyed it (we usually did only a couple of hours a day. And they had kids mini-disco each night he was in heaven. I swear that place was so great and I travel a ton and am used the best accomodations.
It's a direct fight to Cancun and very easy flight. Takes an hour to get there from airport but worth it! My second fav is Turks & Caicos NICE BEACHES. |

| Another possibility is the DR (direct from BWI I think). There are some nice AIs there too (we also liked the area south of Cancun). |

| Thanks all. What is AI? Also, I know this doesn't sound good but husband thinks Mexico is still a bit dangerous and doesn't want to travel there with our son. I travel to Africa for work and don't worry as much aout these things but it's different when your child is with you. I'd love to go to Mexico though, maybe we'll wait a bit longer for that... |

| Grand Cayman --- it's awesome. Safe. Beautiful. We've been 3 times --- once with a 2 year old --- and we always have a blast. Check the threads --- I've posted detailed responses on GC before. |

Mexico --Yucatan peninsula is very safe for tourists. You are likely in more danger of crime here at home

| Grand Cayman? Yuk. On our caribbean cruise, that was the uglist least interesting island we went to. St. Lucia, much nicer. loved Puerto Rico |
