My kids are decent, not great, soccer players (B team)
With all the drama on this board around SYC and LMVSC, what team would you pick for your elementary aged kids? I haven’t loved alexandria soccer for my non-A team kids, but is that as good as it gets? Or does it not even matter if you’re not on the A team- you’ll just be a second class ciitizen no matter where you go? Is it just a crap shoot depending on what coach i end up with within a club? |
| I would stick with Alexandria for the convenience at they are one of the better clubs. Maybe look at Annandale? I have heard they have improved their coaching staff. |
| Where do you live (approximately)... |
I would wait until each club releases their coaching slate. Then, reach out to those coaches individually to get a read on the situation. The overall club politics won't affect your child as much as your kid's coach, no matter where you go. |
Annandale hasn't improved their coaching staff, just rebranded as "Villarreal" as a marketing gimmick. Alexandria is the best bet in that area but it sounds like OP is feeling the need to try somewhere else to see if the grass is greener. In that case just try to find a coach you like, which means don't go to SYC because you can't trust that the coach will not get arbitrarily fired halfway through the year. |
Every club has its lows.. SYC with the coaches.. Alexandria only caters to boys not girls ( not trying to sounds extreme but its the truth ), lmvsc has no TD and I hear ED is a B***. Every other club in the area is just bad. Now pick your club

OP here -
I live just south of old town. Thanks for the help so far? I think? The upside is you’ve confirmed that my options are all kind of mediocre so need to really worry about it! Coin toss maybe? |
If you are looking for a club for next year reach out to the teams that are closest to you. They will most likely ask you to attend a practice. Check out the practices, talk to some parents and see if other clubs might offer you what you are looking for. Not sure how young your kids are however proximity might make more sense at younger ages. |

LMFAO! Last place to go if you want your child to develop. Been down that road before. |
I would agree and wait for the coaching slate to see who the B team coach is. Then ask around about how that coach is with developing kids and their coaching style. Most coaching slates will be out in the next few weeks. |
+1 although OP said his child is solid B team so they may be A team with Gunston. But yeah, don't expect development there |
I don't have a child there but it's unlikely that there is no development. There is a difference between putting together a strong team of individuals versus improving the ability of each individual player. Maybe the teams aren't strong but the players are likely getting better. Do the coaches just send out the players and let them play? Why do you say there is no development. |
