All-female OB/GYN group

Anonymous
I am 8 weeks pregnant and will be switching insurance companies as of January 1 (from Kaiser to BCBS). I am looking for an all-female OB/GYN group in DC, Maryland or Northern VA - I live in DC. Things that are important to me:

1. Low episiotomy rate and willing to respect my wishes to not have an episiotomy unless emergency
2. Returns phone calls promptly, calls back with lab results
3. Willing to take time to answer questions

I do NOT have the option of going to someone who doesn't accept insurance.

Would also consider all-female midwives group (but must be certified nurse midwives).

Thanks in advance.

Birthcare in Old Town Alexandria. www.birthcare.org

DC Birth Center, in NE DC. www.yourfhbc.org

Whitney Pinger at Washington Hospital Center.

All of these are awesome, all female, options in the DC area.

Good luck!

I am the PP - just wanted to add that Birthcare takes Kaiser and it is covered 100%, so if for some reason you wanted to stay with Kaiser it would still be a great option. They book up very very early, so you would need to call them immediately to get on their list for your due month. Even if you are not totally sure you want to use them, it would be worth it to get signed up with them so you at least have a spot.

OP, I go to Foxhall OB/GYN, and three of their four OBs are women (and I actually think they just added a fifth OB, another woman), so you could schedule your appointments with only the women.

They match all your other requests. Episiotomies are not standard, they call back quickly with test results, and twice during my pregnancy have I had questions about which a doctor called and talked with me for 20-30 mins until I felt completely at ease (I was amazed). There is always the chance that you would have the male OB for delivery (who is very nice and professional), so if that's a dealbreaker for you, obviously it wouldn't work out...but thought I'd put it out there. Good luck.

Midwifery Care Associates fits your criteria. (Although if you become higher risk and they need to consult with the OBs, you might get a male.)

Drs. Caskie, Williams, and Holmes are all wonderful at Women to Women OB/GYN Care at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington.

foxhall ob/gyn takes BCBS and they only have one male to their three female drs. you can make your appts with anyone you like, so if you only want your prenatal care covered by females then you could do that. i must say during my first pregnancy i was very hesitant to have a male ob, in fact i never made a pre-natal appt with the male obs in the practice i was with at the time. then when the time came for my baby to come out it happened to be one of the male doctors on call. he was wonderful! i haven't been uncomfortable with male obs ever since. IMO, pick a practice that suits your needs/desires regardless of the gender of the doctors.

I can't say enough great things about the midwives at Birthcare! Call right away though because they book up fast (for a reason).
