Love the title of this new book, Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, which makes the case (totally believable, not surprising to anyone who pays attention to Trump) that he is a huge cheat on the golf course, written by a sports reporter who has played golf with him.

I don't normally post the Washington Examiner as a source but since so many Trump supporters are ready to dismiss any story that doesn't come from a right wing media outlet as being "fake new," here's a review of the book, which is coming out Tuesday.

Rick Reilly, a former Sports Illustrated columnist who has played with Trump, alleges that cheating is part of Trump’s golf strategy in his new book “ Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump" which is out Tuesday.

“He cheats at the highest level. He cheats when people are watching and he cheats when they aren’t. He cheats whether you like it or not. He cheats because that’s how he plays golf.

“If you’re playing golf with him, he’s going to cheat,” Reilly adds.

Trump has hit the links with celebrities, including actor Samuel L. Jackson who once described an instance of cheating at Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, to Reilly.

“We clearly saw him hook a ball into a lake at Trump National,” Jackson said, “and his caddy told him he found it!”

Boxer Oscar De La Hoya and rock star Alice Cooper have also claimed to see Trump cheat on the course, often by having his caddy move his ball into a more favorable location.

“No matter how far into the woods he hits the ball, it’s in the middle of the fairway when we get there,” Ladies Pro Golf Association player Suzann Pettersen recounted.


In his book, Reilly says Trump also lacks good golf etiquette, writing that the president doesn’t remove his hat when shaking hands with players after a round and has been known to drive his cart onto the putting green.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Trump was named co-champion of a tournament he didn't play in.

LPGA Tour golfer Suzann Pettersen, who is friends with Trump, said earlier this year that the president "cheats like hell," telling a Norwegian newspaper, "I’m pretty sure he pays his caddie well."

Yea, I know, I know Trump supporters don't GAF about character or whether their dear leader has a moral core, who cares if he's a cheat and a liar and unethical in all ways as long as he's sticking it to the libs? Such a great principle to live by.

It's one thing to cheat by misrecording scores or moving your ball to improve the lye, but Trump also has his caddy move his opponents ball, or stomp it into the ground.

“During a game with Mike Tirico before Trump was elected, the former ESPN football announcer hit the shot of his life, a 230-yard 3-wood towards an elevated green he couldn’t see. But he knew it was close.

When he got to the putting green, however, Tirico’s ball was nowhere to be seen. Instead, it was 50 feet left of the hole in a bunker.

It made no sense — until Trump’s caddy caught up with him after the round.

“Trump’s caddy came up to me and said, ‘You know that shot you hit on the par 5?’” Tirico says. “‘It was about 10 feet from the hole. Trump threw it in the bunker. I watched him do it.’”
