It's (finally) time for reparations. It's time for the US to pay its debt.

You won’t be writing a personal check. The Federal government will send checks, or direct deposits, like they do for tax refunds
yes I understand. Nevertheless, no cash payments. Education, daycare, help with housing down payments, etc. not cash.

Yeah like you got a say in the matter. Sit down.

The USG has been handing out cash for years and it hasn’t solved squat, but sure try it again. I’m going to be taxed anyhow so this is as good a way to throw away money as the next. You do know the saying about the definition of insanity, right?

Anyhow, reparate all you want. It won’t solve the current issues, but it will make white people feel good about themselves and that’s what it’s all about, right?

That's what voting is. Every citizen gets a say, at least in who represents them.

Far more challenging? I'm reading a book called "White Rage" by Carol Anderson, a professor at Emory. She tells a story of a black man who worked for a brutal plantation owner in the 1920s in Valdosta, GA. He beat the men who worked for him. One day, a man fought back and killed him. In retaliation, the white people lynched 20 random black people. Including a man and his wife. The wife was 8 months pregnant. Her name was Mary Tyler. They tied her up and burned her while she was alive. They cut the baby from her and then when it fell to the ground, it cried. A white man talked over and stomped its head.

None of the white mob got tried or went to jail. Learn some history before you come on her talking about circumstances. You don't know sh!t.

Whether you like it not, black people built this country for free. Did immigrants do that? You clearly don't know your history and sound ignorant. It's sad really.

400,000 soldiers died to set slaves free. Almost a million were horribly wounded. I’d say that debt is well paid. Maybe you can take your lynching story to unsolved mysteries and get some justice for the vics? It will give you a better result than posting here

Point is, this is an unlikely issue with Republicans OR Liberals.

Why don’t you read about something that happened in 2020 instead of 1920? Like blacks murdering blacks and black kids by the thousands every year? It sounds as if you are searching for an excuse for a failed life- reading books about things that happened in 1920 don’t excuse you from being a failure today.

This is the deep fear of white racists. They fear the chickens will come home to roost. That’s a terrifying story, and white people fear that in another generation or two, the rope will swing for them.

NP. Blacks built the south for free, that’s clear. But lots of our ancestors were subsistence farmers in tough places like upstate New York. Lots of immigrants helped build the country in factories and sweat shops.

This is so similar to AOC style. Read the summary on a dust jacket of a book, take it for gospel, apply to everything she sees. Militant, aggressive ignorance.

I think black people are scared white people will do that stuff again. I don't think you are wrong to fear it.

Oddly, the South's insistence on maintaining the plantation system hindered development there, permanently making the South the poorest region of the US. Except for a few plantation owners, everyone in the South would have been better off without slavery.

There is no way the blacks have been a net economic positive to the country over 400 years.

This is one of the most racist comments I have seen in a while, I hope you are able to correct your thinking and attitudes.

That said, reparations will shine a light on the division, trauma and destruction wrought on People of Color in this country over the past 400 years.

We’re going to net it out and it’s going to turn out that you all owe us. Will you pay when you see just how much more you have cost society than you have given to it?

Oh no. Buyer’s remorse? Next time don’t buy people or oppress them without considering ALL of the costs that you’ll incur.

Why? Is PP a 200-year old antebellum plantation owner?

PP was speaking for the US so PP can respond for the US as well.

I wonder if they sold their economic plan to others as “trickle down“ when all it did was collect money for the 1%ers. No wonder Trump loves the Confederacy.

Why don’t you want to accept the fact that the horrible events of 1920 AND 2020 are both the results of four hundred years of slavery, oppression, racism and outright discrimination?

Reparations will help our people get in a better place, and then the process of healing may begin.
