It's not actually about the photo. It's about the weird timing of its release, the assertion it was taken last week (which they knew would get attention because that would make it the first official public "appearance" of either Catherine or the kids since December -- a big deal), and all the other strange statements and choices of the palace and William since this whole thing started.

DP. But if they released an older photo, people would have asked why they didn't have a current photo, and would have speculated about what they were "hiding."

I agree there are a lot of red flags about what's been happening with her health, with William, and so on. But it seems like they were in a bind. Maybe better not to release anything than this?

They've used older photos for many things before. I think they've even done it for Mother's Day before. It's not unusual -- they generally are not posting the photo as proof of life for the Princess, but to commemorate a holiday. So I think if they posted an older photo (and didn't try to pass it off as current), there's a built in explanation -- this is what we often do. Plus I do think people are inclined to give Kate space due to her medical condition and most people are understanding that you might not be up for taking a photo that will be printed by every major global news service while recovering from surgery.

The reason people are speculating about what they are hiding is that they posted a photo with a bunch of glaring, obvious, and frankly bad edits, claimed William himself too the photo just days before, and then every major news service issued a kill order on the photo, an insanely unusual step that almost never happens, especially not with a photo released directly by the family of the subject (so different than a paparazzi photo or other third party, where they might have nefarious motives to make it look like a public person is doing something they never did).

I don't know what they should have released, but it is truly baffling they decided to release such a heavily photoshopped picture and then apparently lie about when it was taken. That's actually quite concerning.

I was shocked at her nails too when I first saw this. Before anyone noticed the photoshop. Even if they currently weren’t painted, this is a woman who had had manicures her whole life. Her nails and cuticles would look different IMO. And I realize she’s recovering.

And if this is a picture from last fall- those cannot be Kate’s nails.

It’s like the “I Spy” books. I see the following issues:


1. Charlotte’s sleeve near Kate’s hand
2. Charlotte’s skirt on the left where it meets her sweater
3. Charlotte’s boot
4. Kate’s boot
5. Louis’s left side under Kate’s hand

Could be that Kate insisted on cleaning it up but she’s medicated and did a bad job. I don’t think there’s anything nefarious but it is sloppy that their team didn’t catch this. I sent a few crazy texts once while medicated and recovering from surgery. I don’t think there’s any conspiracy.

A theory is that Will put out the photo himself, without her consent (and it was either old or she was photoshopped into it). Her side called the press and told them it was unauthorized.

Can you imagine being part of a marriage/family where everyone has staffs competing to make their person look the best, at others' expense? That's why I've had a lot of sympathy for Harry & Meghan, even though they've made a lot of mistakes. This is not a healthy family situation by any means.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I haven't read every page and this is my first comment on this thread. I wasn't trying to make it about them. I'm saying that if the PPs theory is correct, that William put out the photo and Kate's staff notified the press that it was photoshopped, it's an example of disfunction that has affected all of them. I also expressed my personal opinion about other members of the same family.

These are also four people who have their photos taken for wide media release all the time. Kate, George, and probably even Charlotte have likely all had formal media training. It's not like taking a photo of my husband who always tucks his chin into his neck and blinks in photos, compulsively. They are an extremely photogenic family because they work at it, and that's actually one of the reasons the two very high profile, heavily photoshopped photos in the last few months have raised eyebrows. They never had problems getting good photos before, even when the kids were younger. Why are they suddenly releasing photos that appear to have been AI generated?

This pic wasn't AI generated. While there were some bad retouching here and there, everyone has the right number of fingers and teeth.
