Informal DCUM poll: which did you discuss with your DC first?
That Santa wasn’t real or the mechanics of sex? |
To clarify: I mean the mechanics of how babies are made. |
Hm good question. My oldest is 8, and he still believes in Santa and doesn’t know about sex. I’d say Santa first though. |
Sex |
My DD is almost 6 and we're getting ready to talk about sex shortly. She has already asked how babies get out of the mom.
Santa we'll save a while, I think she's onto it but wants to believe. |
Idk but my Ker got in trouble (separately) for telling the truth about both last year. Ugh. |
Sex at age 2.5
Santa when she asked around ... just shy of 4. |
So long as you don't combine them into a conversation about sex AND Santa, it doesn't matter. |
Sex will come first. My 6 year old has been asking lots of questions. |
My now-four year old has been asking lots of questions about babies and conception since I was pregnant with her sibling, when she was two. So we have had the sex talk already to a certain extent. She still believes in Santa. |
![]() Sex was first in the this house. 10 yo DD still seems to believe in Santa. We’d of course been talking to her for years about bodies and babies but had the final PIV discussion last summer when friends said they were trying to having a baby. “How do you TRY? How does that work” |
We never had to discuss Christmas, my children figured it out rather early. And I bought the Usborne book regarding sex, which is better than others because it discusses puberty in both sexes, as well as the rest, and let them read it when they were around 10. Middle school also covers it. So I didn't actually talk about any of these subjects... |
sex first. Talked about how mammals have babies. Still haven't told our kids about santa. |
We told our daughter Santa is make believe from the start. |
Never really discussed Santa. Doesn't exist in our house. |
