Testing

Does your school teach “typing”? Curious as testing is done on a computer and I imagine kids with better typing skills have an advantage. Anyone take an outside class because your school didn’t teach typing?

Most schools start to incorporate some computer lessons pre-3rd knowing that PARCC is computer based, but they don’t teach typing per se.

The only organized typing class I know of has been taught at Landon, the private school, in the summer. Not sure if they still do it.

If you are concerned, there are learn to type programs online that you could work through at home.

However there is no real consequence if your child doesn’t do well on PARCC. It judges the school mostly. Your kid will probably forget about it by fall when you get their scores, and there isn’t really a reason to share with them.

Our school gives all the kids an account with “typing agent” to learn/practice typing skills. I do not think they spend much time in school using it but they encourage home practice.
