Thinking worst case scenario, waiting on the lottery results tonight. What’s everyone’s last minute resort, when you don’t get in anywhere else.
What grade - it is very different for 6th vs PreK3
What grades?? I mean our IB isn't our top choice long run but it also isn't a last resort.
For PK3? In the past I would have suggested Langley as a good safety, it being on Rhode Island and North Capitol and their bus routes, and I know several people who are happy there. But last year someone I know didn't get a PK3 offer until September, so I wouldn't consider it 100% safe anymore. Still a good option though.
Like what will I add if I completely strike out? Probably Noyes and Langdon non-Montessori...
For PK, SELA for those who can handle the commute.
If we don’t get PK4 at our IB, my kid stays at daycare. Unlikely given we have a sibling already attending the IB, but stranger things have happened. There is no other pk4 near us or on our commutes that we would get a spot in (all are fully subscribed with IB children) and I cannot add in a commute somewhere else in the city, still be able to work full time, and get my older kid from school in time to get to her dance class or sports practice.
Kipp Grow, Friendship Armstrong
For 6th grade
St. Anthony's in Brookland. |
We will stay in day care at Easter Seals as it is a community based center that qualifies for tuition for PK3 if we don’t get into one of our priority schools. While we are happy there, I would move our son if we get into a school we want to stay in through elementary. Otherwise, I’ll just keep trying the lottery.
PreK 3 - Bridges, Friendship Woodridge
Friendship Armstrong.

I think it'll be an easier year in the lower Ward 5 area due to the new Mundo Verde offering so many spots. But for people who didn't give themselves a safety, maybe Walker-Jones?
I also think Shining Stars is going to take it on the chin in retention this year. |
