fat-footed baby

Any recommendations out there for a new walker with excessively chunky feet and ankles? I tried to get DS fitted at Ramer's, and they finally recommended he just go barefoot. I'm OK with that around the house or on the playground equipment, but on the sidewalks and in the rain I'd like him to wear something.

Robeez are too tight around his ankle and the Robeez Tredz are too big. His feet are practically as thick from sole to top as they are long!

Have you tried Stide Rite shoes in Wide? That might work

We had goo luck with pedipeds -- the velcro closure made them adjustable enough to accommodate DD's Fred Flintstones. Fine for outside as long as it's not raining. Stride Rite Extra wides were ok , but I wasn't thrilled about the girls' styles. Maybe the boys' are better?

We also had this problem. We started off at StrideRite in extra wides. We live in VA so we went to smaller specialty stores like Bradshaw's and they were able to fit him as well. Our pediatrician also recommended Shoe Train in Rockville but we never made it out there. We were given a pair of Robeez as a gift and he was never wore them because his foot was too fat. Pretty much just kept him in socks until he was about a year.

Fast forward to age two and his foot has thinned out some and he now wears wides. So many more options because you are pretty limited when they are XW!

OP here - Thanks for the suggestions. Stride Rite are actually not wide enough - we went to a Stride Rite store and they turned us away!

The pedipeds look perfect because they are velcro instead of elastic. I'll try them out.

My son has the same fat feet and ankles!! There is a great show store in Chevy Chase circle - is it Kramers, anyone? They were very helpful there!

OP here - I went to Ramers, who I trust implicitly. They are awesome for my older child. They are the ones that couldn't find anything for chubby-foot.

Another thought from the PP mother of Fred Flinstone -- See Kai Run shoes are supposedly cut super wide. We haven't tried them, but may do so soon. Would be great to find them locally.

I don't like ramer's. they totally sized my kid wrongly. go to cabin john mall, shoe train. in potomac (a haul i know). My baby has the exact same deal. he was a double extra wide and they had shoes that were even wider. Not stride rites, some other brand.

Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw are great. They will find something to fit your kid, and won't sell you something that doesn't fit.

They are on Lee Highway.

Thanks everyone I've ordered some Pedipeds online. If those don't work, sounds like I"ll be hauling out to Cabin John. It keeps coming up on this board, so it's worth a trip.

I appreciate all the advice from fellow parents of fat-feet!
