If your child grew to be tall, were the number of the growth percentile consistent?
If so, what percentage? |
My kids ages 5 & 7 fell off their 90-99% height growth curbs around age 3. They are still tall for their ages (70-80%) but not exceedingly so. |
My kid was the opposite. Tiny baby and by age five or so had made it up to the 25th percentile, where he stayed for a good five years. At 13, he's now in the 70-80%. |
The parents are absolutely the best indication. My son is almost 8 and is probably in the 30th percentile for height. That said my husband is almost 6 feet – not super tall but certainly not the 30th percentile - and was a very tiny child who grew a lot in high school. |
My 2 year old currently has a projected height of 6’8”. The tallest people in my family are about 5’10” and in DH’s are about 6’1”. I’m not taking his current height very seriously. |
But that’s not easy to do when one spouse is very tall and the other quite short. DH is 6’2”, but I am 5’4” so our kids could go both ways (or somewhere in the middle). My girls are 5.5 and 3.5 and are both quite tall (75-85%). Not sure they will stay this way or not. |
More likely to trend towards the same sex parent. They may be in between you, but you’re not looking at girls who will be 6 feet tall. |
Not my child, but my much-younger brother was about 60th percentile. Average height through high school then 18-20 shot up to 6’5”. Our father was only 5’11”; mother is 5’9”. |
My dd is 25th percentile but DH is 6'3" and I'm 5'10, paternal grandfather is 6'7". I think the curves don't mean much. |
I have the opposite example- DD was about 70th percentile around 18 months to 2 years. I’m 4’11 and DH is 5’6 so not exactly 70th percentile lol. She’s 11 now and has been around 20-25th percentile last few years. |
Both my boys have been 99% since birth, but they're only 4 and 2 so it's hard to say where they'll end up. I'm 5'8" and my husband is 5'10". There is a tall gene on DH's side so maybe they'll get it? Maybe not.
I don't understand why people are so intent at predicting this stuff when their children are toddlers. You just gotta wait it out. One of life's many surprises. |
This is an interesting height calculator, which also takes into account pollution exposure and nutrition.
My son is almost and was born at the 75th percentile. He went up to the 95th and hovers between 90-95th percentile. According to the height calculator, he’s supposed to be 6’2”. My husband is 6’1” and I’m 5’3”. My MIL is 4’11” and while my husband is the tallest of the three sons, the grandsons who are grown are all 6’2” and taller. They just seem to make big boys. |

Damnit, I meant to say my son is almost 9. So he could certainly plateau but so far he’s held fast to his growth chart. Now I’m going to bed ![]() |
Well, my dad is 5'11, my mom is 5'9 and I ended up 5'5. I take after both of my grandmothers who were petite. My paternal grandfather was 6'3 so that explains my mom's height. Genetics are weird.
My son is 3 and has consistently hovered 90% on the growth chart since birth. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, I'm guessing around 5'11 as that's the height of my husband. |
