Has the flu finally peaked?

All the posts on this forum are now about the vaccine.

I'm not reading anything about people sick, with sick kids. Has it gone away?

Anecdotally, my older child's NW DC school had many children out with flu a few weeks ago. Most were out just a few days. Some were very sick and missed a week or more of school. This seemed to last about 3-4 weeks total...always someone new getting sick. But in the past 2 weeks, according to my child at least, no one in her class has missed school!

Just one person's experience...and we are definitely taking the kids for their 2nd shot when it's time.

The swine flu is still out there but I believe that now that more people have been vaccinated and/or already actually had it, it should be dying down. Now the regular flu should be surfacing. It is hard to tell what is really going on with the swine flu since it seems dr's are not even testing patients and are "assuming" anyone with a fever has it. It really actually pisses me off.

I think the virus has run its course in the kids -- it's the adults now that are getting it.

There are likely to be multiple waves of this virus, the most recent wave has passed, they expect another one in January.

Wasn't there just an article in the Post about flu visits to Children's Hospital having peaked the last week of October? But i think it also mentioned a second wave.

There is the possibility of a third wave in the spring, they are saying, so it still makes sense to get vaccinated.

Are you all giving just your opinions (apart from penguin who posted his graph) or are you medical professionals?

I'm the OP -- I'm speaking just anecdotally -- it seems like 4 weeks ago ago I couldn't speak to a friend, email anyone, or post on Facebook without hearing from people whose kids were sick with flu-like symptoms. 2 weeks ago it was crazy. Not many adults were sick then. Now I'm hearing of a few adults but very very few children.

anecdotally, yes, fewer kids in my daughter's school seem to be sick. That said, my nephew in connecticut and my neice in altanta both had h1n1 last week. With the upcoming holidays and travel, I am wondering if we are going to see it back again.
