Ligonier, Arrowhead, Tockwogh, Echo Hill, Wabanna, Sandy Hill, Letts, Silver Beach, Eagles Landing??

I am researching sleepaway camps for my 12 year old son. I would like a camp that is at least two weeks long. My son enjoys water sports, ziplining, rock climbing, ropes courses, etc. It would be great if the camp had a good sailing program, but not completely necessary. Here is a list of just a few of the overnight camps that we are considering: Ligonier, Arrowhead, Tockwogh, Echo Hill, Wabanna, Sandy Hill, Letts, Silver Beach, and Wilderness Adventure at Eagles Landing.

Can you comment on any of these? Are there any other camps within driving distance that you recommend?

How about Highroad or Letts?

My son has gone to Letts and Tockwogh. He likes Tockwogh much better - it is better at giving the true sleepaway experience (Letts they have changeover each week, so harder to form bonds). Tockwogh has a decent sailing program, lots of water activities, and good facilities. Their climbing wall is OK, but not anything spectacular for competitive climbers. They also have ropes courses, etc.

My kid has done wabanna multiple summers. It's really well run, the counselors truly care about the kids, the grounds are beautifully kept and the cabins are the nicest cabins I've ever seen (I don't know if the boys cabins are the same inside). It's a Christian camp, don't know if you're aware of that aspect, but for me that makes it even better. They spend lots of time on the water too... We only had one bad week when it was one of those crazy week-long rainy stormy weeks so didn't get to take much advantage of the outdoor offerings, which sucked. But the staff still ran fun activities, it's just that you really do want to be able to make use of the bay, pool, large swing, etc.

Mine has been returning to Letts going on 7 years. He has friends from all over the DMV, and won't consider anywhere else. He and his friends like the changeover weekends, because there's a little more freedom, a little less structure.
