Today I did something really DUMB. I got distracted for one second and almost made a left turn into oncoming traffic, which happened to be a huge dump truck going at 45 mph down a hill. I drive a teeny Honda. By now they would have made the phone calls to my husband and so on. I took a long pause and told myself to slow down. |
Glad you're ok. |
Wow, OP. I've been in a few slam on the brakes moments myself. It looks like you have a guardian angel. |
Standing on the median on K Street waiting to cross, my foot caught a loose brick and I almost tripped into the street, right into the path of a city bus barreling through the intersection. I would have been flat as a bug. It took me the better part of a week to stop re-living that moment. |
Scary! Thank goodness you're ok.
I was robbed at gunpoint in Bethesda. Only time I have ever seen a real gun. My guess is I have probably been way closer while driving or riding in a car... |
I did something similar when I was 16. I don't know even what happened, I just somehow didn't see the van coming towards me and I turned across traffic. The driver must have slowed down, because I made it ok, but it was CLOSE.
Glad you're ok, OP. I'm sure this happens way more often than any of us would like. |
Let's be careful out there folks! |
When I was three I got lost in a parking lot. I was just about to get into someone's car with them when my dad found me.
Who takes a kid from a grocery store parking lot? If they'd had good intentions they would have taken me inside.... To this day I shudder to remember it (and I remember it clearly) |
I was attacked by some crazy man. He was holding me down and punching me when the "Oh, shit!! I am going to die!" hit me. The memory gets a little fuzzy after that. I made it out of it and the next day I found the scissors that he left. I don't know what his intentions were....and I can't decide if I want to know. |
I worked at a Pier One in college and a new driver missed the break and drove his new Lexus right through the storefront. I was standing just far enough back that although I wasn't hit by the car, glass shattered all over my body.
My next job was working at a bank, which was held up at gunpoint. No one was shot or injured, though. |
What did your dad say to those people when he saw they were going to take you away in their car? Did he call the cops? |
oh my goodness. So scary. OP and others -- glad you're okay! I was burglarized and woke up to see folks going through my things in my bedroom (I was single). I convinced myself I was dreaming and went back to sleep. Woke up to find things missing and the back window broken. They climbed in through my back window with an extention ladder my neighbor left outside (note: don't do this!). I don't know what would have happened if I woke up, but uggggh, I shudder.
Other moments include driving moments. Oddly enough a good friend told me this AM that he and his wife were driving on 66 and a bunch of metal rods fell off of the truck in front of them and slammed through their windsheild. ONe landed on his lap! He and his wife and the three dogs they had in the car were fine. Scary, though! Be careful everyone. And yes, let's all slow down... |
When I was in my 20s, there were a few times when I drove after drinking, and I DEFINITELY should not have been behind the wheel. It makes me sick to my stomach when I think about it now (in my early 40s). |
1. almost drowned when white water rafting 10 years ago
2. felt like I was going to die during childbirth 3. recently had swine flu - ok, sorry, bad joke, but i really did have swine flu |
I woke up in the middle of 66 going back home when my friend screammed my name.
We were ok. |
