Do I have to take progesterone suppositories during 2ww if I don't have a deficiency?

Anonymous
Just wondering if anyone did not take progesterone suppositories during their 2ww after their IUI or IVF. I had horrible, unbearable mental/emotional side effects from Endometrin during the 2ww for my last IUI cycle (which was done because of male factor). Experienced very serious depression and anxiety, not just the blues or weapiness. I just finished IUI #2 and am wondering if I should even bother taking the suppositories. I'm supposed to go into my RE's office in 2 days to get my progesterone levels checked.

If my level looks ok, should I bother taking the progesterone? Are the side effects worth it? My lining looked great before the IUI so I am wondering if the progesterone will even be beneficial for implantation. And maybe I just don't understand what this stuff really is supposed to help with besides mimicking pregnancy symptoms!

TIA for your help/advice!

I'm not sure with IUI, but the progesterone is absolutely essential during IVF, since there is no corpus luteum to produce progesterone on your own. This is because in IVF, the follicles are aspirated with a needle, removing many of the cells which might be there otherwise to form the corpus luteum.

i would ask your doctor only he/she will know what to do. does he/she realize that you had emotional side effects the last time? they should know that....

My Doc says at SG its standard protocol..and while I hate the suppositories... I think about the amount of money I have spent on the cycle....

I am doing IUI at SG and they are requiring me to take them.
I have had 3 successful pregnancies with no progesterone problems, so I know I don't have a deficiency, but like the PP said, it's part of the standard protocol.

Since you had severe side effects, though, I would talk to your doctor about it some more.
