When to test..DPO

Hi there:

I can hardly stand it.... I have a First Response test calling to me from my bathroom cabinet! I know there is a risk that I could have a chemical pregnancy and testing too early may just get my hopes up. BUT I wondered when you all normally test, DPO?

First, go into a different bathroom right now and pee!! There, now you can't test.

How many DPO are you? Can you possibly wait until 12? That's what I'd aim for.

I actually don't test very often - I usually wait it out and save myself the trouble.

The one month I *knew* I was pg, I tested at 12dpo and got a very clear positive. It turned out to be a chemical and by 15dpo my tests were negative again and my period started a few days later. So I was late, so I knew something was up, but if I hadn't tested early, I would never have gotten the positive HPT and would not have gone through the emotional rollercoaster of a chemical pregnancy. So there is a benefit to waiting if you can. On the other hand, it kind of encouraged me to know that at least I can get pregnant - didn't happen to have a good egg that time, but at least it met up with a sperm. So if you're someone who wants as much information as possible and you can handle the disappointment of seeing a negative result, then testing early may not be so bad for you.

I think most TTC women test around 10 DPO but they will be more accurate around 12 DPO, and I'd personally even wait until 13-14 DPO myself. I've had a chemical pregnancy, too, and I regret testing early. It was heartbreaking. Now I just wait to see if AF shows or not.

On other boards, I've seen women get BFPs at 9DPO and some not until AF was late.

HI OP.....i am in same boat as you.....try SOOOO hard not to test yet...the waiting is killing me. Hang in there!! I send you lots of luck!

For my positive cycle, I took my first HPT 4 days after a day six IVF transfer (so the equivalent of 10 dpo) and got a faint line. I tested every couple of days after that until my beta and the line got darker and darker. It is possible that this is a twin pregnancy but I don't know yet. Best of luck to you!

Tested at 9DPO and got a negative, tested the next day and got a positive.

I am not the OP but I did post earlier (15:52)
I caved in today and tested......got a very,very faint line!!!!

I am trying to remain calm and hopeful and will test again
in 2-3 days when my period is really due.

I hope this means what I think it means! We have been trying for a LONG time and I am no spring chicken!

OP here....I made myself wait and tested this morning...BFN. Then realized I had my period! Oh well, next month may just be my month Thank you to all who responded. And congrats to 9:57!

9:57 here again......sorry, but I feel like you guys are the only ones I can talk to about this now. I don't want to tell my husband yet (and get his hopes up) until I get a good solid line and I am really "late"
We have been trying for over 1.5 years and I have taken AT LEAST 2 pregnancy tests every month!!! (yes, I am crazy!)This is our last attempt before seeing an RE next month. I am PRAYING this is really happening! I must go to the bathroom about 30 times a day just to check if I am getting my period. Will try not to test again till sun/mon...

To the OP and 11:47.....hang in there and please post back again next month I will be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way!!

To 9:57 -- WOW! I am so hopeful for you...1.5 yrs. is a long time and I really hope this works out...

Also hope it works out next month to OP and the other TTC'ers. I'm on the other side of all this, but remember the ups and downs of every month so clearly. Here's wishing the best for you all!
