Looking for a warm psychologist to help tween DC with perfectionist tendencies at school (getting a grade other than an A is the end of the world, anxiety before exams, etc.)
NW DC or Montgomery County would be our preference. |
Alvord Baker does CBT which is good for perfectionism. Also Behavior Therapy Center of Greater Washington. There are also workbooks on perfectionism for kids that are good--there is a series by Dawn Huebner that has a workbook on perfectionism I believe--you can find on Amazon.
Thank you! Anyone have recommendations for particular individuals? It is important that DC "click" with someone who is warm and kind.
The Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change in Rockville specializes in school refusal. IME, you don't necessarily get to pick your provider - it's based on who has availability. But in your intake appointment, you can talk about qualities of a therapist that might work best with your DC. (And I would ask what the process would be if you don't have a good fit with who you get.)
Girl or boy?

Alvord Baker has worked wonders for us. I understand that they have a pretty significant waitlist right now, but our psychiatrist told us that the owner/founder is very choosy about who she hires.
