I received a message from care.com saying a sitter I routinely use is 'not participating in the care.com community at this time.' When I googled what this means I got a FAQ answer as follows;
In no particular order, reasons why we may remove a member from the Care.com community include, but are not limited to: The individual does not meet membership/eligibility criteria (e.g., is underage without parental consent) Care.com does not offer its services where the member is located The member is not active in the service The member has misrepresented himself or herself and/or has provided false information to Care.com Suspicion of fraudulent activity We were unable to verify the information the member provided when he/she registered The member has posted or searched for inappropriate words/phrases/content on Care.com The member, or a member of their household, may have been accused of, arrested for, charged with or convicted of a crime Allegations of theft, abuse, harassment, or neglect have been brought against the member Please note that this list is not comprehensive, and does not identify all reasons why an account may have been terminated. As stated above, Care.com may remove a member for any reason or no reason. Any decision by Care.com to remove a member's Care.com membership does not constitute, and should not be interpreted or used as, information bearing on the member's character, general reputation, personal characteristics, or mode of living. I'm trying to figure out what to do with this information. It's more than 'is not paying' because another sitter we use routinely discontinues paying but she doesn't get removed from care.com. How concerned should I be? |
It was obviously something on or similar to that list. What's done is done. You can't really do much about it now. What are you planning to do about it, OP? Not being facetious, but realistically, I would let it go and find someone trustworthy through a friend or something similar. |
It seems kind of ridiculous to lump in "the member is not active in the service" with all those other unsavory things.
Ask her. If you're not satisfied with the response find another fish in the sea. |
She's probably not active through the site anymore because she has enough direct, private clients that she doesn't need to be giving a website/app a cut of her earnings in order to secure clients anymore. |

OP, the WSJ just published two investigative pieces on Care.com and their lack of vetting for sitters/daycares listed on their site.
Care.com was aggregating publicly available info on daycares. Daycares were not necessarily aware that they were listed on care.com. So care.com may have removed your daycare because they never "registered" on care.com in the first place. This may have nothing to do with your daycare provider and everything to do with care.com. |
Care.com is a mess. I know several nannies who were kicked off because they objected to bad reviews. Only problem? The reviews were left by families the sitter never worked for. Families who were mad the sitter turned them down left a negative review, and the sitter was kicked off the site for objecting. I would not fire a sitter you otherwise love because they have an issue with that garbage site. |
Someone reported me for not being interested in their below minimum wage job. I simply responded to the message I received stating my rate and reminding them what minimum wage was. Care.com os a joke. And now they charge nannies!?! I don’t know if any career nannies who use Care, even for babysitting jobs. So, if you like her, keep using her. |
