Am I a candidate for NCIVF or not?

Anonymous
I have a 17 month old child and I'm trying for #2. I've had two recent chemical pregnancies. After the second miscarriage, I had blood work done and it came back completely normal. FSH well within normal range. However, I am 40 years old. According to Dominion's website, you must be under 40 to be considered for NCIVF. Does anyone know if Dominion will work with you if you are a bit older? I have very regular cycles and can get pregnant easily, but I think I'm having trouble getting a good quality egg. I'd really like to avoid drugs.

DF also has the IVF hope program...for women that fit into your category...

But only Dr G or DrD can tell you if they think it would be a good idea for you.

You'd be a candidate, but if you are getting pregnant easily I'm not sure how helpful NCIVF would be because it isn't going to help you find a better egg. NCIVF just works with the one egg you naturally produce each month, and it isn't going to do anything magical to that egg to make it chromosomally normal (your chemicals are probably because you haven't gotten a normal egg yet). Taking fertility drugs, either for IVF or IUI, would up your chances of getting to that good egg faster because they would make your body produce multiple eggs. But they would also increase your chance of multiples, and the process isn't fun. Honestly, if you have good numbers and two recent chemicals, your best bet may be to keep trying on your own for awhile longer.

Agree with the previous poster. NCIVF is just going to help with fertilization of the egg that your body is already going to ovulate. If that egg is "bad" (which might have been the case with your chemical pregnancies) then NCIVF won't change the overall picture. Traditional IVF matures all the potential eggs for any given month and so in theory may fertilize a normal egg that otherwise the body might not have chosen to mature.

good luck to you!

Agree with both PP's and you might benefit from medicated IUI but can't see much advantage to natural cycle IVF. We did NC but it was for male factor, and I know of two woman over 40 that got pregnant with this method, one is 41 and the other 42 so I know DF doesn't eliminate you from trying if your 40.

Is NCIVF a good choice for male factor infertility? We have just started looking into treatment after my husband underwent an unseccessful vasectomy reversal.

"Is NCIVF a good choice for male factor infertility?"

Yes, it actually is why Dominion started the program - for couples with just male factor issues that would require IVF but who didn't want to have the female partner undergo the meds of IVF.
