How often do you host dinners for others? With kids and so many activities, I feel like we don’t do it often enough. But I love having people over but feel I can’t because of spirts etc. What do you do? I feel bad |
OP here.. I meant to say “sports” not “spirits” ha!! |
I do it once a week with my extended family, and one a month with friends/coworkers |
We have weekly dinners with my parents. For friends, we mostly do brunches these days. Way easier!!! Some months, we’ll host three, or even four brunches. And I honestly don’t mind. |
Usually have larger get togethers at our house 1-2 times per month, but host another family more often than that. We love having people over and entertaining. We have a 2 year old and 7 month old

Never |
A few times a year when people visit from out of town. Never for anyone local. |
We have friends over for dinner 1-2 a month. |
+1. |
I always wonder about this when I read the Sunday routine feature in the nytimes. All those people claim to have friends over for dinner every single sunday! I’m always like who really entertains that often...? But I guess some people do? My questions are: don’t you get stressed by all the cleaning, planning, and preparing involved? And when do your friends have a chance to reciprocate if you’re hosting that often? And how do you even gather that many people every week? Sometimes it seems like scheduling even one other couple/family to come over is so difficult. |
Every couple of months |
What do you do for brunches? I think Sunday after church seems like a nice time to have people over, but I’m not sure it would be way less stressful. Do you buy a lot of the food? |

I did it in my single days. My roommate and I would have people over for “Sunday Suppers”, and we’d watch whatever was on HBO, like Six Feet Under or The Sopranos or Sex and the City. Either I’d make a big pot of something, or we’d order in Chinese or whatever. It was a lot of fun. But that was then, and now I have kids and dh is not very sociable and we move a lot so we don’t have many local friends. It was good for that season of my life. |
My parents live locally but I’m not counting when we have them over.
I would say for friends every few months. |
