Between Rec and Travel

Anonymous
My son is looking for a new team with basically the following caveat:

"I want to play with people who know how to play the game, but aren't a bunch of dicks about it" (sorry, his words)

Basically he (we) want a team that enjoys soccer and and the kids have some skills but they aren't going all out 4x practices a week and travel to other states and whatnot.

Is there a level or a team where kids get together to have fun but still play the game 'beautifully'?

Are you in Montgomery County? There are some good MSI classic teams and SAM select teams.

Where and what age?

My son plays on PPA for SAM Select - I call it "Travel lite"

Is this PPA Developmental or PPA Premier? What age?

OP - my son wants the same but add in "I want some of my friends on the team too"

NP. It would be Premier. PPA Development might be an option too. There is a range of ability, especially because a number of Premier players also play Development, but every kid knows how to play the game.

MSI classic teams are your best bet. There are 2 divisions, so he can pick the level of play that suits him.

OP here. Live in NW D.C. Closest options are Stoddert, Achilles and not sure who else.

Would like him to play with friends but truth be told most of his friends are not really athletic and nowhere near the level he wants to play. Hard to find a team with any of them beyond once a week rec.

if friends are important, find the closest team that is at a decent level, and just make friends that way. Kids won't end up spending time together outside of practice if they don't at least near each other. Why not look into stoddert, they have many different levels of play

Stoddert makes sense given your location. You could also try DCYFC. I think it's all "travel" (no rec) but they have at least some of their teams in Sam Select as does Achilles.

Try DCYFC (DC Youth Futbol Club). NWDC based with teams that play in SAM Select. Two practices per week, and much more low key than typical travel.
