If I buy an EV in Maryland can I have it titled in Virginia?
Not sure why Hyundai and others aren't making their EVs available nationwide - I guess it's a production issue so they're focusing on states with stricter requirements. I'm looking at an Ioniq, a Kona, or a Kia Niro. |
| yes you can buy a car in MD and title it in VA but with car manufactures only selling cars in specific locales, the dealer may not sell you a car if you do not live in that area. in fact the car manufacturer may not allow the dealer to ell the car to someone living outside the particular region. |
| Markets are much stronger in some states (often because of state level or utility incentives) so manufacturers are focusing their efforts there. |
| In addition to the federal credit, MD has EV tax rebate and charger installation subsidy., VA doesn't. Something to keep in mind |
. But I live in VA so this doesn’t help me?? |
It helps to explain why more are available in MD because the added incentive may affect demand. |
MD adopted the CA tailpipe standards including minimum sales of EVs but VA didn’t. Therefore carmakers want/need to sell EVs much more in MD than VA. |
| This is OP again. So.... can I go to MD and buy a car to title in VA? Or will dealers be reluctant to do that? |
| No-one but a dealer can answer your question. Make a call. |
I have always heard they won’t sell it to you, but you can ask. |
