Getting a laptop

Where can I buy a laptop these days. Mine is 7 years old. And what kind. What should I look for. It will be used for graduate work.
When I ask people, everyone has said Costco. Well, I don't go to Costco.

I bought my macbook at best buy. Apple guy was there and spent a lot of time teaching me everything. I have a Dell desktop and was actually planning to buy a Dell laptop.

I would go with Dell or apple. Seems most lawyers and lots of tech people use Dell and lots of other big jobs use apple. I'm happy with either but there's something about my macbook that just feels really nice to use. Now that apple is compatible with running Microsoft word I would probably recommend apple slightly over Dell.

Lightweight and thin mattered most me to me. I also have a 2015 macbook with all of the ports still though.

Mac is nice if you can afford it, otherwise go with a PC. I have a great HP laptop I got for a third of the price of my spouse's MacBook Pro. Go to Best Buy or Micro Center and also see what you're getting online.
