Villareal club

I was looking at 2005 results and saw that Villarreal won the first division at ASIST. Does anyone have any insight about the Club. Do they have more than one team in that age group?

Also, I saw the second division Barca Academy won the second division of the tournament. Is this the one in Leesburg?

We are new to the area and my son came from a heavy possession style Club and is interested in these two Clubs. Are there any others that play that style?

Alexandria is far, far better than both of those clubs when it comes to possession soccer. FWIW, I am not an Alexandria parent, but familiar with NoVa clubs in that age bracket.

I second the comment on alexandria and possession style. The Villareal 2005 boys team is built on size and speed.

And that was indeed the Barca Academy in Leesburg.

Most winning teams in 1st division at this age group are size and speed. It’s definitely not unique to Villarreal. Barca plays many kids up age brackets and their teams are usually much smaller physically. They stick to a training curriculum and play possession very well. I also agree to check out Alexandria. They do a great job teaching this style of play.

I would stray from the bigger Clubs- Loudoun, Arlington, etc. They primarily rely on player pool/size.

What leagues do these 3 teams play in?

Villarreal = VPL (A few good clubs, a few not so good)
Barca = EPL for first team, ODSL for others
Alexandria = CCL (same as VPL, but more of a 80/20 split between good and bad, most of the larger clubs are CCL in this area)

Villarreal is really the old Annandale club rebranded after the partnership

Out of the 3 leagues for this age Group, EDP is the most competitive.

McLean is another possession style club.
Their A teams play in ECNL.
Their B teams play in CCLII.

The best thing to do would be to go watch these teams play. If your son is a top level player, you will want to contact the clubs you may be interested in before tryouts. Most coaches will let players attend a couple of practices with the team to see how they fit before tryouts.

Hah, for the 2005 Boys that's a definite maybe on them being possession-style. Ever seen them play?

Villarreal is caca. Even at the oldest age groups they rely on target men strikers. McLean is not possession based unless you’re in the ECNL team.

Alexandria and Barca, OP. Those are your best bets. Depending on where you live will factor greatly as they are a good distance apart.

If you happen to go around DMV and watch matches you will see most Clubs in the DMV play by clearing it down field and relying on physicality. It becomes volleyball on the field, even the 'elite' clubs where they think making 1 or 2 passes means they are playing possession.

If your child is used to players know where to move and when to distribute the ball, they will get seriously frustrated with the level of soccer IQ elsewhere.

Truth.

Barça is good but crazy expensive. Alexandria has a great philosophy as well if you need a less pricy option.

Villarreal is garbage and to the person that says McLean is possession is blind.

Barca is def possession but is out there and Alexandria is a good option.
