Parent Night Out

How old was your child when you could drop him off at a Parents’ Night Out session and come back 3 hours later? DD is almost 2.5 and I can’t inagine doing this yet and she’s not potty trained yet, but is she getting close in age? Or is this meant more for 9 year olds?

Many of the places offering this kind of service say they take kids as young as three.

Our preschool does it but I think that’s a little different. As young as 2.5 but I think we did it at 3+

We did it at preschool at that age. Still haven't done it at random places (YMCA, etc.) that aren't known to the kids at 4 and 7. Not sure my kids will ever be down for that!

Mine loves it. 3-4 hours of eating pizza, playing, swimming (Reston Y), and watching a movie. He adores Kids Night Out.

We started at 4 but we had used the Y for our Day Car/Pre School so we knew the program pretty well and were comfortable with it. DS normally had a friend or two that were attending as well.

Our elem school does it through the aftercare program. We did it twice last year and even though DD got picked up at 8 ( it was open til 9) she was still a a complete wreck when we got home. 8 is normally bedtime in our house. I told her she is not doing it again until she is quite a bit older.

Our daycare did it, but that was a little different because the kids were with their regular teachers. They did it for all ages, and I think we started using it at about 2.5/3.

I'd drop my kid off now, at 6, if the staff running it were people she was familiar with already (her martial arts studio has PNO, for example). We don't use it because we're in a stage right now where getting enough sleep (which requires lights out by 8:00) is both a challenge and critical for managing behavior, but if my kid were more flexible that way, I wouldn't have any issue with it.

With total strangers? I wouldn't do it yet.

I have a 2.5 year old. The times seem a little late for her. She still goes to sleep at 7 and the places are like 6-9pm. We just put her to sleep and get a babysitter to come at 7pm instead, which isn't that much more money.

My DD’s daycare used to do this, all kids who attended were allowed it was $25 to keep them there afternoon Pickup until 9:30. I took advantage of it every single time. Take the break! They’re professionals and can handle a sleepy toddler that isn’t potty trained.

We started at around 4yo. I tried when younger but DC just wouldn't stay. But I have seen kids as young as 2 for parent night out (its daycare affiliated and they change diapers). Another place does not and they start at ~2.5yo
