Bill introduced to declare the Old Hardy School surplus and extend long-term lease to the Lab School

To paraphrase Bowser’s letter: “Hey Council. You should not have forced me to lease Old Hardy to Lab in 2016. So please make me do it again and for lots longer.”

Travesty.

^^ and I mean travesty sincerely; no sarcasm

Ugh! Why!

And I say this as the parent of a special needs child.

This is being done as "emergency" legislation, which means no hearings. The only emergency is it couldn't get through the regular process.

Shame on the Lab School for subverting democracy.

Because DCPS has said time and again that they can’t use the space. You disagree, but you have lost.

Stop trying to make Old Hardy happen

Weren't they getting a sweetheart lease where they paid like $80,000 for a 25,000 square foot space for 25 years? Sign me up for that! That's a lovely deal for a 45$K a year private school.

DCPS has said no such thing.

I've been to every public meeting on the subject, and watched the video of the Council hearing. Nobody from DCPS participated at all.

DCPS has never been asked.

dp: As stated in Bowser’s letter, the Council decided this rather than the Mayor and her staff (incl dcps)

Looks like as of last week, DC parents were still very interested in repurposing Hardy for the use of public school students.

School overcrowding in Ward 3

Ruth Wattenberg, the Ward 3 representative on the DC State Board of Education, asked ANC 3F to support the recommendations in the Wilson High School Feeder Pattern Community Working Group Report on relieving overcrowding in Ward 3 schools. The ANC was not ready with a resolution of support since this report had just landed in their inbox the day before. But there was discussion particularly focused on the old Hardy School, which is leased to the Lab School until 2023. Wattenberg felt strongly that this is the only available school space and city-owned property available for expansion.

Gross. It's about as much of an emergency as Trump's wall.

Mary Cheh will speak at the ANC 3D meeting tonight, Wednesday, March 6. Here is the post from the "Keep Old Hardy Public" website:

ANC 3D will convene its regular, monthly meeting on Wednesday at 7:00pm downstairs in the Kresge Building at Wesley Theological Seminary. Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh will be a guest speaker.

Following Councilmember Cheh’s appearance, the Commission will discuss and vote on a resolution supporting keeping Old Hardy public, and will vote on becoming a co-sponsor of the Keep Old Hardy Public coalition. The discussion is listed on the published agenda for 8:50 PM.

Thank you ANC 3D!

This makes me incredibly angry. It's both short-sighted and undemocratic. Shame on the Mayor. And if the Council proceeds with no hearings, shame on them too.
