Just unsealed: a DC towing company paid $50,000 dollars in bribes to two DC officials for rights to tow taxis. Then when he got caught, bribed another official with $13,000.

Muriel Bowser is a political protege of the late Marion Barry - the most corrupt mayor in DC's history. She is the heir to what remains of his corrupt political machine.

Barry certainly had plenty of opportunity to be corrupt.

The fact that he died so broke someone else had to pay to bury him is testament to his absolute refusal to take bribes or profit from his office.

Gotta respect that, no matter how you feel about him otherwise.

Personally, as a white republican dude that grew up in DC, I see him as something of a folk hero. Nothing but fondness for him.
