Nursing and "high beams"

I'm still nursing, and I notice that I'm perpetually nipping-out, if you know what I mean. Before having a baby, I could wear whatever bra I wanted and unless it was really cold and the shirt was really thin, I never had that problem. But now, it seems like I'm nipping out 24/7 and the only way I can hide it is if I wear a super padded bra. Is this normal??? Does it go away after I stop nursing?

It is normal. It may not go away after nursing. Nursing just makes your nipples more prominent.

I love nursing but HATE this part of it. My nipples look like my mom's now - she nursed two kids.

PP made me laugh. Mine also look like my mother's. I remember growing up and looking at her breasts and being glad mine didn't look like that. I even wondered *why* they looked like that!

OP here - so for those of you with the same situation, do you just wear padded bras all the time? I saw there is a new brand with lilly pads nipple shields built in, but I think they only come in underwire so they aren't an option while I'm still nursing.

Yup! I remember asking my mother why her nipples looked like gumdrops!

Why can't you wear underwire while nursing? I did with both of my kids. Oh, and yes, I buy bras that are slightly padded.

I did wear underwire with my first, but I kept getting clogged ducts. After the 2nd clogged duct, my doctor told me to lose the underwire and I never got another one.

Bravado makes some new microfiber nursing bras that have great inserts that you can use (or not) to cover up the issue. I found it particularly bad while breastfeeding/pumping, but it seemed to get a little better after weaning. The bra was expensive, but I wore it constantly and got rid of most of my other nursing bras.
