Alternating Claiming Children and Taxes

I'm divorced. We alternate claiming DC. Do you adjust withholdings every year? Or do you withhold at the higher rate regardless and just hope for a good refund on the years you claim dependents?

I’d adjust every year, but I don’t like big refunds because I’d rather have the money during the year.

We never bothered changing our withholding. I didn't have an issue getting a higher refund those years.
