Extra Lab Time as 504 Accommodation

Anonymous
Has anyone successfully gotten extra time to complete labs as an accommodation under a 504 plan in high school. DC gets extra time for tests and in MS teachers were understanding about extending time for labs and other assignments, but DC doesn't have that as an explicit accommodation. Of course in HS if it's not explicit, the teachers don't give extra time. Just trying to see what that accommodation would look like. I don't want DC using it as a crutch, but it does take DC longer to complete assignments. TIA for your help!

You could have the 504 updated to say that student gets time and a half (or whatever) for all tests and classroom assignments.

That would certainly cover labs, as well as presentations and other assignments.

Yes, my DD had the extra time for tests and assignments as an accommodation in her 504 plan. But, the need for extra time on assignments needs to be arranged with the teacher first. So, if one knows about an essay due in 2 weeks, you can't expect that extra time is warranted if mentioned just before the due date.
