Wish they didn't play so damn far away. They should be the Frederick Footballers.

this thread is ripe for DA discussion hijacking.

"The player also alleged that Burke’s assistant coach at the time, Tom Torres, witnessed Burke’s verbal abuse but said nothing."

Tom is probably used to seeing FCV coaches verbally abusing their players.

The above article and comment brought to you by the paid club and coaches of McLean, Loudoun, and BRYC.

Either way, it is likely true and reflective of a man raised at a different time in a different country where tough love was the rule and who is portably too old to care about political correctness. He’ll need to adjust or his tenure will be short lived. You can’t call a player a f’ng f’got, nor should you. I just means you’re ineffective as a coach. At the same time, that was commonplace 20 to 30 years ago and no one complained so he doesn’t know any better. Now he’s learning.

As far as Torres, that’s a tough spot to be in. I am sure all the posters here have been or would be bigger people and stand up to this social injustice against their boss. Yes, that’s sarcastic.

"Get that f'ng f'got" is probably a phrase that has been yelled more than once before something really horrible and violent happened to some innocent ppeople.

That is what he was teaching teenage boys.

His career should be over.

This guy was a chronic name caller at FCV too. I never heard any f-words, but he wasn't shy with demeaning names and tone of voice.

I always be was just a bad person. Is he really a good enough coach to coach professional women?

He coached my daughters team once in a while at FCV. This story is certainly true. His language was terrible. He would use the F word on U11 and U12 teams - girls.

Well, gee whiz. I hope the 20+ year olds on the Spirit pro team can deal with an occasional F bomb. They needed quite a few last year from their performance during the regular season, as recollection serves.

To note, he doesn't even come near the young DA teams; those are coached by dedicated DA staff not named Richie Burke. This "story" has no legs.
