The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will offer an H1N1 clinic for very young children, ages six months to 35 months, by appointment only on Wednesday, November 18. Both nasal spray and injectable vaccine will be available, and vaccinations are free. The location of the clinic will be given when appointments are made. Appointments can be made on Monday, November 16 between 3 and 4 p.m. by calling 240-777-4040. Callers will be asked for name, phone number and doctor’s name when making an appointment. Montgomery County will also hold a vaccination clinic on Sunday, November 22 at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The clinic will target those individuals in the high risk groups, as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control: • Children and young adults ages six months to 24 years; • Pregnant women; • Adults 25 to 64 years with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, HIV/AIDS or cancer; • Adults who are caretakers of infants younger than six months of age, and • Health care and emergency medical services workers. Both nasal spray and injectable vaccine will be available. Vaccinations are free. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be 5,000 doses available. The clinic will be located in the Physical Education Center (www.montgomerycollege.edu/maps for directions) located on the North Campus Drive side of the Rockville Campus. | Looks like they have been stockpiling with 5000 doses available. |
| Thanks! |
I wouldn't allege "stockpiling." As I understand it the H1N1 delivery pipeline is a weekly thing. It's unlikely that any county/locale would stockpile vaccine. There's no point. |
| No information about whether they will have thimerasol free shots available. Grrrr. |
What earthly reason would they have to stockpile? You think they've been lying to us that they'd run out? That sounds paranoid to me. |
How does anyone know if these doses are really free of thermisol? |
|
Well, I think they are not. They had a Thimerasol -free clinic for pregnant women only last week.
|
5000 doses? is this is real!!! in that case MCPS children might need to get the flu mist also. |
I actually think they were "compiling" the vaccine shipments they have been getting since they canceled their last mass vaccination two weeks ago so that they could hold one MASS clinic and wouldn't have to deal with all the griping when they ran out instead of running little clinics that could only vaccinate 200 or so and then disappoint many more (like Fairfax). They certainly haven't been vaccinating anyone but pregnant women since the last mass clinics. They had to have been getting doses of more than just the injectibles they were rationing out to the pregnant women. |
CALL THE FLU HOTLINE AND ASK THEM. |
| How long will the line be for these kind of clinics? I'm debating what time I should get there. Also, how do they tell "high risk groups" from the others? I don't think they'll ask adults 25 to 64 years to verify their chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, HIV/AIDS or cancer, which means basically anyone can show up and get vaccinated. |
Look at the announcements again -- these are for appointments. There is no standing in line, I gather. |

We went to Kelly Miller today to have our kids vaccinated. We were going to have my husband vaccinated (who is immunosuppressed) also, but they said we should wait since he's currently on antibiotics. They offered me one also, without asking any questions about my health status...but I had already received it at my doctor's office.
It was so empty there...I would think with 20 or so nurses sitting around with nothing to do, that they would vaccinate anyone who wanted to be vaccinated. |
please excuse the above post...I had 2 windows open and accidentally posted on the wrong thread
