real talk about Dominion

Please, real (not marketing) experiences about Dominion and if it's worth switching over to this clinic. I've done consults at SG and GW so that's what I am comparing to.

Hi, I am a real Dominion patient who actually didn't even consider going there initially BECAUSE they advertised on the radio stations I listen to when I'm driving! They have one commercial, in particular, that I absolutely cannot stand.

My GW OB/GYN referred me to the GW clinic. I initially liked my GW RE but found the monitoring process extremely impersonal (albeit rather efficient). However, what level of satisfaction I had with my RE and the GW clinic tanked after I had 2 back-to-back losses (and received essentially no support from my RE and nurse with one that was a 7 wk miscarriage) and it became clear my case was more complicated than my RE initially expected. It became abundantly clear that I was not going to get the care/help I needed from that RE. We debated switching to a different RE in the practice who had I liked when she did one of my procedures, but I decided that wouldn't help my on-going frustration with the nurses (I asked to switch after the first one gave me blatantly wrong information, and the second one turned out to be a poor communicator overall-which also doesn't work when you're doing fertility) or everything I despised about their monitoring process.

We did consults at Columbia Fertility and Dominion Fertility, and I chose Dominion. Everything about my experience there was better than my experience at GW. My own RE did all my procedures and my ultrasounds after I became pregnant, morning monitoring was calm and private, and they don't assign you a specific nurse--the nurses all work as a team. For me it was 100% worth it (my baby conceived with the help of Dominion is due in 3 weeks).

Remember that for every one of us who had a bad experience one place and raves about the place they switched to, you're apt to find someone who went the opposite direction (i.e., bad experience at Dominion who is thrilled with GW). I would say it's worth doing a consult and trust your instinct.

I am also a real patient. I have no idea how I found out about them. I think that my OB recommended them.

I did 3 IUIs and none of them worked. I was going for IVF, but while I was waiting, I got pregnant naturally by some miracle. I called them, and they had me come in for an early u/s anyway even though the baby wasn't a product of their work. Dr. D literally gave me a hug after we saw that baby's heartbeat at just past 5 weeks. He was legit excited for us, and it was very touching as I'd read so much negative stuff about him on here.

My only interaction with Dr. G was for the HSG, and he was very nice then as it hurt a ton.

I'll add that I got pregnant by IUI at Dominion. Dr. Gordon was my RE - I specifically asked to be scheduled with him.

I saw Dr. Sarajari once at morning monitoring. I had no direct interactions with Dr. Dimattina or Dr. Waud. However, a woman I work with is now a patient of Dr. Waud after switching from Columbia Fertility, and she says she's been happy with her experience so far.

Did you do IUI with injectables or clomid?

Neither, actually. Dr. Gordon suggested starting with unmedicated because we had conceived naturally 3x over the previous year but none had made it past 7 weeks, plus I was risk averse to twins. However, he left it up to me to decide how aggressive I wanted to be starting out. Dominion prefers letrazole over clomid. If I had wanted to start with that, he would have supported it.

Do you know why they prefer letrozole over clomid?

I went there, thought they were highly unorganized, close hold with my monitoring info (like tell me how many follicles I have please, tell me my estrogen levels, don't act put out when I ask), some of the ultrasonographers are rude, and my Dr, Dr. Waud, would often take days (and in one case a week) to get back to me with extremely important information. For my first retrieval, I was put in a storage room, it was nice cold with a broken clock and excess equipment, for 45 minutes with no contact, I truly thought they had forgotten about me. The one good thing is their monitoring spots are quick and that is helpful if you go before work.
Amazingly I am now at SGF and have had the best experience. Total opposite of Dominion. Their monitoring appointments are the only annoying thing as they are always 30+ minutes

The bad experience I had at my first clinic and my personality shaped what I was hoping to find in my next clinic/RE. I wanted an RE with decades of experience balanced with the right kind of temperatment. I extensively read this forum and online reviews; my conclusion was that Dr. Gordon seemed like my best bet.
