Why is it that the public is not free to park in the neighborhood adjacent to Walt Whitman HS?

These are public streets. Why is it that I need a special permit to park in that neighborhood? Is it Kenwood? Not sure of the name. It is a HUGE area where parking is not permitted, and now the snotty, uptight neighbors are complaining about the Whitman kids parking in no parking zones. Parking ought to be permitted on the neighboring streets by anybody.

Due to abuse. Parking is for residents and their guests. Depending on the area, it allows up to 2 hours parking without a residential permit.

Do you also get mad that you have to pay a meter to park on the street in Bethesda? Or that most of residential DC is permit parking only?

Lots of neighborhoods all over the country have parking restrictions around high schools. Including mine, thankfully.

Yes. I believe my taxes paid for those streets and I should be allowed to use them. Especially, say, 8 AM to 5 PM.

My taxes pay for the fire department. Why don't they let me jump in and drive the fire engine any time I want?

My taxes pay for I-270. Why don't they let me use it to play soccer on?

My old town on Long Island was right by the beach not only did we have non-resident parking year round in the summer we make the whole town a "no standing or stopping zone" for non-residents. They will ticket you dropping off people. They ticket the shit our of Uber, Fed Ex and take out joints. They also once got so carried away we had a traffic jam as used as short cut we ticketed people in traffic for violating no standing policies. My brother in-law is border line communist. He thinks the rules are outrageous. Yet comes to my private beach on my pass for free and pontificates

If you buy a house near a high school or a beach house near the beach where others want to go, too bad. The cost of the house should reflect the inconvenience of people parking in front of your house.
