irregular cycles - need to see a dr?

Anonymous
I am TTC #2. DC #1 is 18MO and BFs twice a day.
I have had 6 cycles PP and the lenghts were: 47, 42, 32, 44, and 28 days.
As you can see these are all over the place. Early this last cycle I had a UTI and this is really unusual for me - so not sure if this mixed things up as well.

Is this just my hormones getting back to 'normal' - or is this something I should get checked out?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Were your cycles regular before? I wonder if the irregularity may be due to breastfeeding. I would call your OB and ask if he/she thinks you should get Day 3 hormone bloodwork done. Have you tried ovulation predictor kits to see if you're ovulating?

Why are you breastfeeding at 18 months?? That is just weird. Perhaps you should stop that for starters.

Oh please ... the immaturity. From WHO: "Thereafter infants should receive complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond."

I agree. WHo breastfeeds that long? If you are really worried about your cycle coming back regularly perhaps you should simply stop breastfeeding.

I knew a woman that breastfed her kid until she was 6 yrs old, so 2 yrs seems reasonable compared to that. However, it can interfere with your cycle and your ability to conceive #2 so most RE's would recommend stopping.

Wow - some pretty ignorant posters tonight.

In any event, I would consult with your OB but you may want to think about trying acupuncture to get your cycles back to normal. It worked for me, although I'd already stopped breastfeeding so my hormones were probably a bit different than yours. Also, are you temping and charting? I would assume you could be ovulating even though your cycles are not regular. In that case, you may want to get one of the Clear Blue ovulation monitors so you know when you're about to surge. Generally the date of ovulation dictates the length of your cycle, so with the varying lengths of your cycles it is going to be hard to figure out when you are about to ovulate unless you use a monitor.

New poster here. I disagree 19:41. It is unusual to breastfeed that long. Regardless, if OP is concerned that breastfeeding is causing her to have irregular cycles there is certainly no reason to continue breastfeeding. I am quite sure a child at 18 months will do fine without breast milk.

PP get OFF this board if you have nothing worthwhile to contribute.

seriously, while it may not be the norm around here, it is perfectly acceptable to breastfeed an 18 month old. get over yourselves.
