Infertility Support and Discussion
|
Our current insurance does not cover the cost of infertility treatment. I am wondering if anyone else in a similar situation went to Shady Grove and is willing to share what the costs of your IUI were. I have called them and read the information on their website, but it still isn't totally clear. They say that it is $1200-2200 per cycle but that the cost does not include pre-screenings, medication or follow-up visits. What would be most helpful is what the cost of the pre-screenings, medications, and follow-up visits were. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks in advance. |
| I found that the most expensive part of pre-screening is the HSG test. Personally, I had that done at GW because it was cheaper to have it done there (although I did have it done my a 24 year-old resident...). If you talk to a financial counselor they should be able to estimate the cost of the bloodwork. You'll likely need an FSH/day 3 test plus infectious disease b/w (that should be covered by your insurance and you can get that done at labcorps). I can't remember what the office visits cost -- I think under $100/each. Also, (and this may depend on your doctor) they may require genentic testing before you can do an IUI. DH and I are both Jewish so the required the full Jewish panel, but that was covered by DH's insurance. |

I would double-check your insurance. You said it does not cover treatment - but the prescreening tests are diagnostic, they are not fertility treatments. Even if you don't have coverage for treatment, the diagnostics may still be covered.
I am doing IUI at SG and my insurance does not cover it, but they did cover the prescreening (Day 3 bloodwork, semen analysis, HSG, and infectious disease b/w for me and DH). Oddly, they are covering my meds for IUI but not the global cycle fee (which is $1600 for a clomid+injectible cycle). You only have to have the prescreening day 3 baseline testing done once. When you are ready to start a treatment cycle, you still will have day 3 b/w and u/s done when you start, but it will be part of the treatment cycle so it's included in the global fee, so that's not an additional cost once you are cycling. |
| I agree with the PP who suggested that you talk to the financial counselor in your SG office. They can give you detailed information about all of the costs of a cycle, and they also research your insurance to find out what is and is not covered. Some of the prescreening tests might be covered. Good luck! |
Same happend to me - insurance covered all the pre-screening (diagnostic) and I payed out of pockedc for the IUI itself. |
