Clomid advice

Anonymous
We are waiting on DH to take another semen analysis since the first one was so bad (0 viable sperm). We think it is because of outside factors (waiting too long to get it tested - over 2 hours, taking it outside in the freezing cold, etc).

While I speaking with my OB she said that the only thing she could offer was clomid but it wouldn't be a monitored cycle. Should I do something like that? I don't think I have trouble ovulating but who knows. I am nervous about twins since I am a twin as well. Any advice?

NO!!!! OB's really know next to nothing about getting pregnant. If you take clomid, you need to be monitored unless you want to end up with high order multiples.

I wouldn't take Clomid unmonitored unless you can accept the twin/multiples risk.

Are you a fraternal twin or identical?

I would not take clomid in an monitored cycle. You can end up with high order multiples if you aren't careful. You want to be sure someone is watching to see how many follicles mature.

I don't think it's worth it. Especially if you don't have ovulation issues. Clomid can also mess with your lining, making it difficult for the embryo to implant.

I don’t know if we are fraternal or identical (we weren’t born in the States). I was just surprised how casually my ob suggested clomid. If I hadn’t read about it on dcum I would probably have jumped at the chance to give us some higher shot at getting pregnant!

I would prefer a singleton over multiples. We already have 2 kids. Also we have big babies and my twin and I were huge babies (over 16lbs total). Our birth was long and very hard so I am told.

And can cause cysts. DW went rogue during an IUI cycle at Shady Grove (unmonitored) and got her OB to prescribe clomid. SG found out and they got PISSED because it was a liability issue (which makes sense, and we didn't quite get it at the time). Cycle didn't work and she developed a cyst that took a few months to resolve.

OP, is your twin a boy or a girl? Does your twin look exactly like you or does s/he look similar in the way most siblings may look similar but not the same?

I think it can also interfere in other unknown ways. The two cycles where I ovulated with Clomid, I did not conceive. The two cycles I ovulated with other meds I did conceive.

She probably knows what fraternal/identical means, PP. but can’t say for sure medically.

Hahah op here - yes I know the difference! We are two girls and look enough alike that you know we are twins. Kind of like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. They are fraternal but look a lot alike.

Ah okay! Thanks for clarifying.

Clomid made me crazy. Crazy. Ive been through a couple Clomid cycles, three IUIs (one with Clomid) and two IVFs and only Clomid gave me terrible, depressive mood swings.

I held off on Clomid because the risk of twins terrified me. I caved after a couple of years of no luck naturally and tried the Clomid, boom twins.
